About

Hi. I’m Natalie and I believe that everything starts with an idea. Which is good because… I have tons of them. I am always on the lookout for things I love. Blackbird Ideas is about three things: food, family, and fun.

Blackbird Ideas has been a huge motivator to cook, take adventures, and be more creative. Who couldn’t use some more creativity in their life?

I started this blog one day when I was writing papers for my Master’s degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy and I thought that blogging would be more fun. It was. I have since completed Graduate School, but ultimately quit my teaching job after 7 years to focus on my family while still blogging on the side for fun. I keep my nib dipped in the teaching ink by tutoring young children during the week. I also enjoy creating items for Teachers Pay Teachers. You can check out my store here.

I am definitely a home cook. No formal training here (obviously)! I am part of that new generation of cooks that learned on the internet. “How to mince garlic” on Youtube was visited by me frequently. But I think I have come a long way from the single girl living in a kind of scary apartment off the highway eating salad after salad (ok ok, grilled cheese after grilled cheese). Since late 2012 I have been cooking more with whole foods and rarely cook with dairy or wheat, but a girl can’t live off lettuce alone. Check further into the archives for some guilty pleasures!

With my husband, John, our son Jack, and our dogs, Stellar and Chum, we put thousands of miles on our car, taste as many recipes as we can, and spend time with family.

Having fun in (and out of) the kitchen,

Natalie

(and Chum and Stellar and John and Jack)

  1. Hi Natalie,
I love your blog and blog layout! I am also using the grisalle theme and couldn’t figure out how to make the pages width larger? Currently my page is somewhat narrow looking. Could you please share how you made yours wider? I’d greatly appreciate it!

Tell me about it!
